Former Battambang Provincial Hall, a 118-year-old building, is open to national and international tourists every day

Battambang: The ancient building of the old Battambang Provincial Hall was opened by the provincial authorities for national and international tourists to visit every day. According to the Battambang Provincial Department of Tourism, the former provincial hall is 118 years old (1905-2023) and is now being turned into a provincial heritage museum for national and international visitors.The building houses a display of various scenes that took place during the reign of each lord until 1907 and during the French colonial period.

According to the Battambang Provincial Administration website, the history of the former Battambang Provincial Hall was built during the reign of Prince Katathon Chhum, when Battambang was under Thai rule from 1795 to 1907. Prince Katha Thorn Chhum is a descendant of Chao Ben who ruled Battambang for five generations. In 1905, warlord Katathon Chhum hired an Italian architect from Bangkok to build the building for his personal residence.But two years later, in 1907, when France demanded the return of three provinces, Battambang, Serey Sophorn (Svay Sisophon) and Angkor (Siem Reap) from Thailand, to Cambodia, the warlord decided to sell all his homes, including This building, which he did not live in yet, to the French authorities. The building was also used as the workplace and residence of senior French officials and later as Battambang Provincial Hall until 2005.

According to the Battambang Provincial Department of Tourism, a visit to the ancient building requires a ticket purchase. For foreign tourists aged 10 and over, $ 3 per person. In particular, for Cambodian tourists aged 18 years and older, tickets cost 1,000 riel per person.
